What's this Realmedia Thing

After a couple of years working real media content I though it was about time that I wrote some of my knowledge down. First of all what is realmedia? How do I know it if I see it? First of all what is realmedia? Realmedia is the term used to describe any content published on the internet using software developed by Real Networks. how do I know it if I see it? Realmedia is quite obvious compared to some of it's rivals in that you can only view it using software from Real Networks. These products go by the very obvious names of Real Player, Real Jukebox, etc.
